Never a dull moment

Yesterday was quite interesting. Not long after waking up, I smelled skunk. Sometimes that happens here. But it would come and go, all morning. Finally about 1pm, just after Sister Marshall stopped by, an I opened the door and was assaulted by the odor again, I went to investigate, and I found the offender. Our furry little frined was hanging out between the back of the storage units and the retaining wall of the car wash. I was several yards away from it when I peeked into the recess. It was looking right at me. So I showed the car wash kid (I think his name is Adam), and we both set out to call animal control. Apparantly the county thinks animals take the weekend off too, because their weekend number is actually police dispatch which gave me another number to call and I left a message. Who knows if it was the right number. No one ever came. I went to the store and as soon as I pulled into the driveway, I could smell it again. I actually could smell it on me for the first half hour I was at the store. But when I went to go find it after coming home, it was gone. Couldn't have been far, I could still smell it. The car wash kid came over on is way home to tell me he chased it away.

But this morning, it's back. I smelled it, went to investigate, and it was snoozing in that same spot I saw him before. I don't think I will even bother with calling anyone today. I should have bought more candles yesterday.

I was pretty popular yesterday too. A couple sisters came over to drop off stuff, and I went to do my measurements for the SLCM Biggest Loser contest.

Then last night, I'm cleaning like a freak. I like my house clean for Sunday (though the only time it stays that way is before the kids get up). I hear siren after siren whizzing by and can tell that whatever happened is close and normally I'm at the window at the first inkling of trouble, but I was too occupied this time. I happen to notice lots of flashing lights in the kitchen window, so I peek out and can't really get a good view because there were so many flashing lights glaring. So i stroll down the driveway and see so many police cars and fire trucks, police tape and lots of people congregating. Being in my PJ's, I went in the throw on a sweatshirt and shoes and go down there. I see a downed tree, but don't notice until someone points it out to me, the front end of a truck. We are looking inside the window of an apartment and can see the front end of a truck! Wow! I watched as they cut the driver from the truck, put him on a backboard, and lifted him out the window. I've seen a lot of crazy stuff around here, but nothing like that so far. After they put him on the stretcher, I came home. About 12:30, as I'm falling asleep, I can hear them pulling the truck out of the building. I checked it out this morning, and there were people milling about and it's all boarded up. I hope no one else was hurt. I know that in that apartment lives a family with 4 children (the oldest about Lyndon's age, the youngest just older than Lena). And I know the layout of those apartments and it crashed into the master bedroom. Hopefully that is the parent's room and they were still up. We are so afraid that will happen here. But will all this drama that continually happens around us, we know we are blessed and watched over.

But like I said to someone this morning, never a dull moment around here.

Wow you had quite the day yesterday. You are doing a biggest loser contest? I hope it goes well for you. I hope you catch the skunk too-I hate the way they smell!

I learned today that you can lure skunks with raw eggs covered in peanut butter. I haven't tried it yet. When that stink gets in your house, it permeates nearly everything, and hides in corners.
