Kaydee had her ABR test yesterday. It was an awfully long day. They had her test scheduled for 11 am, and we had to be there at 10, so you would think it wouldn't have taken all day. Most of the time was spent waiting. Then they finally gave her the sedative at noon, and then a second dose at 1 when she was still screaming and fighting. Finally got her to sleep at 1:30. Even though she was still screaming and clawing and kicking, I laid her down, she rolled and tried to climb out a few times, then she rolled over one last time and it was over. Dead to the world. So out of it, that it was quite the ordeal to wake her up afterwards. Ever see a drunk toddler? It's so sad, yet funny. She was pretty groggy all the way home. She can drink while she's half asleep - poor thing was starving. She did miss a couple of times and knocked herself in the face with her sippy cup. What's one more bruise on the face? She gave herself a few during all that fighting earlier.
But all that drama was worth it. This was something I worried about since I made the appointment. Was it really necessary to undergo the risks of sedation? Yes it was. She cannot hear low frequency sounds at all in one ear, and only a little in the other. The tests play a sound in her ear and sensors placed behind her ears and on her forehead can tell if her brain is processing them correctly. So obviously the low frequency sounds were not getting through to he brain. Then they put a headband on that conducted sound into her skull right behind her ear, and her brain was processing that, so they were able to determine that it was her middle ears that had the problems.
We dont' know exactly what problem that is, but it could be as simple as fluid. More doctors visits will determine that as well as the plan of action.

wow that sounds like a bad day for poor little kaydee. but hopefully its just fluid. gramma told me that courtney had fluid in her ears never had an ear infection and they pit tubes in and she was able to hear better and started speaking a lot better. so we will keep our fingers crossed.
Wow...it was a crazy day for you. I hope the hearing tests help the doctors draw some conclusions about what is going on with Kaydee. Good Luck! I hope they figure things out soon. Poor Kaydee...what a trooper!
I hope its just fluid. My brother had tubes in his ears and it made a big difference. I started to hear and talk very quickly after the tube were put in. I hope everything goes well!
